Google Teams Up With Intel, Sony To Help Make Web TV A Reality
The FT reports that Google , Intel and Sony will announce a “significant breakthrough into consumer electronics and the broadcast industry” later this week with the launch of a so-called “Smart TV” platform. blu-ray to DVD no longer works with Sony

Just got a Sony HDTV and the bdp-570…. I keep my CD’s, DVD’s and Blu-rays MINT because when I buy them I make a back-up (first thing!) and store the originals. My gal loves a few of my bluray movies and a few of the standard movies I have on my hard drive..but I don’t want to give her the originals b/c she’s not good about keeping them in mint condition and the hard drive movies need to go to disc b/c I don’t want her using my PC. So…I have made back ups of the bluray discs for her and copy’s of my other dvd’s in the Avchd format using TsMuxeR and ImgBurn. I just bought her the BDP-S470 and we watched a few movies last night. I connected to the internet for the first time and did an update. NOW 2 WEEKS OF MAKING COPYS FOR HER DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE SONY PUT SOME KIND OF BLOCK IN THE FILMWARE THE BLOCKED AVCHD or something! IM NOT A PIRATER, I MADE COPY’S OF? MY BLURAYS!!! Can I roll back the filmware update or copy my blu-rays onto dvd another way without buying a $300 bluray burndrive for the PC? This is way too controlling of them…. It’s reminds me of buying a car, then you get on the road and find that they will only let you drive on SOME roads some times……. not cool!!! Can anyone help??

Which Sony Blu Ray player should I buy?

Here’s the deal. I need a Blu-Ray player. I can get a Sony BDP-S1 for “free” with my American Express points (I have a lot of them, might as well use them for something cool). But, I am aware of the fact that there are some newer models out there; namely the Sony BDP-S500 and BDP-S300, and that the BDP-S1 has been discontinued.

I am fortunate, I can go out an buy one in the store and it’s no big deal. But like anyone else, I would prefer not have to shell out the cash. I suppose the real question is then this:

Are the BDP-S300 & 500 so much better than the BDP-S1 that I should go out and buy one, or will the BDP-S1 suit me just fine.

Some points that might help you answer this… I have a 52″ Sony Bravia XBR4 LCD television. I don’t have a surround sound system at the moment whereas we just purchased a new home, but in the future may have something put in the living room.

Or, should I be considering a different brand altogether? All insights are appreciated. Thanks!
