What is the best way to hook up my home theater?

I have a home entertainment system right now consisting of a cable box, dvd/ surround sound combo, and plasma tv. I will be adding a blu ray and I need to know what is the best way to set up the cables. Here are the hook ups I have now: The tv has one hdmi which is used by the HD cable box; it also has s-video, and numerous other component cables, including the red, yellow, white, blue, green…… My dvd has hdmi, digital optical, s-video, and the red, white, blue, green, etc. The blu ray will have Analog Audio Output(s), Coaxial Audio Digital Output(s) : 1, Component Video (Y/Pb/Pr) Output, (Y/Pb/Pr) OUtput, Composite Video Output(s), HDMI Connection Output, Optical Audio Output, S-Video Output. Since I only have one hdmi which is used by the cable box, (and my tv is only 720p anyway), I was wondering what is the best way to set up the other cables? I use the dvd/ surround sound all the time for sound because the tv speakers don’t cut it. I was going to use highend component cables; the three video cables to the tv from the BR and the two audio cables to the dvd player for sound. But I wasn’t sure if S-video and digital optical would be better than the component cables? My other question is should I use an hdmi/ component cable combo from the BR? I could run hdmi to the surround sound for the DTS, and then use the video component cables to the tv for the video. I’m not even sure if the BR will split it like that but if so, would that be a good setup? I have extra hdmi, svideo, and digital optical cords so its not like I’m wasting money.

Why Is It So hard To Fix The Blu-Ray Player And Upconvert DVD Player(Maybe Home Theater Level Type)?

Why is it like so hard to solve and fix problems with the Blu-Ray player and the Upconvert DVD player. Yesterday when my little brother gave it another try to fix the problem, well I don’t know what he did. But it cause the problem of not being able to watch cable TV. All I know is he was doing some thing on the A/V receiver. When that problem happened it had the same thing, the A/V receiver’s screen would not show any speaker in use so no L, C, R, SL and SR . Also nothing was shown on the HDTV screen when the Comcast Motarola Cable box and A/V receiver are turned on. But at night my little brother tryed again to fix that problem. He was trying all the features on the A/V receiver and wiggled one of the cables and fixed it. He also tryed again for the players, by checking the features on A/V receiver has and what he set and still nothing. The same problem is still happening. So What could it be the A/V receiver, the cables or some other thing. Also what is a way to fix it so the problem can’t happen again of a sudden or look like a temperary fix.

IF you want to post ideas to try in fixing this and need details like what HDTV is it or Blu-Ray and A/V receiver here is the link to my last question here on Yahoo Answers with all the details.

For anyone who did not or forgot to go read the last question with all the details of the problem.

Both the Blu-Ray and Upconvert DVD player aren broken it will read the discs. The only problem is when the A/V receiver and anyone of the players on, it will not show the manufactor’s name on the HDTV screen, so it will not show saying no disc, open, reading, close and play. Also when anyone of the player reading a disc, there is no sound, and the A/V receiver’s screen not showing any spekers in use with the logo L, C, R, SL and SR lighted up.
last of all the Blu-Ray or the A/V receiver auto switch over, when the BD button not push on the A/V receiver or the remote. I can’t remember for sure, but my little brother might have tryed a different HDMI cable and still nothing the first time, when I told him about the problem.
The part talking about the Blu-Ray player and the A/V receiver, I was saying bit will NOT switch over when the BD button on the A/V receiver not push or the remote.
The part talking about the Blu-Ray player and the A/V receiver, I was saying bit will NOT switch over when the BD button on the A/V receiver not push or the remote that came along not a universal remote.
I would think even this person’s home theater problem, would also be hard to solve and fix. It is not one of that that has a quick answer, and it takes time do those trial and errors to see will this work to solve and fix. Last of all it is not a kind of problem everyone would come across or will have. He goes the link to that one I think is not that easy to solve like mine. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArDqqh2gezgT2dKp9jRmU_Xty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100301191748AAQPFLq
Right now I can’t even watch any of the the DVDs I own like Rio Lobo, Jackie Brown, Street King, Narc, A Fistful of Dollar, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, Steamboy, It Happen One Night, War, The Unit Season 4, NCIS Season 2, CSI Season 5, Punisher War Zone, To Catch A Thief, The Lion King, Ransom, Aladdin, Rain Man, Clear And Present Danger, The Company and Lucky You to name some.

I’ve got a 5.1 home theater setup. Will a “Stereo’ blu-ray player only play two channels, or am i confused?

Current Setup:
1000 Watt 5.1 Samsung System with built-in “upscale” DVD player

I want to purchase a Blu-Ray player, but I’m confused because all the ones I’m finding are either [Stereo Out] or they’re the Blu-Ray version of the receiver that I currently have, speakers included.

Will the stereo out ones (80-100 bucks) produce 5.1 sound, correctly, or must I shell out the higher cost for the receiver with a built-in Blu-Ray ?

Thanks for the heads-up
