Should I replace my receiver to get hdmi?
I just picked up a sony hdtv and will get a blu ray player to acheive 1080p. My Denon 3803 doesn’t have an hdmi jack. Do I need to replace it (like the best buy guy said) for best results or will running hdmi to the tv and using the audio outputs from the tv to the denon work ok? Would there be a time lag?
Hdmi or svga to use my HDTV as a monitor for my laptop?
My tv is a samsung ln52a750. My computer is a Dell studio xps 16 with a 512 mb video card and a native resolution of ( I believe ) Of 1366×768. So just wondering what toorder to get the best picturepossible. Also the laptop can play blu Ray even tho not at full resolution but will they still look ok?
Audio Optical Cables & HDMI Cables Question?
So, I am selling my old dvd player on craigslist because I have a ps3 which is the best blu ray player, so anyways, I see that the dvd player has both HDMI and Optical, are you supposed to use both the HDMI & Optical in tandem, just like the ps3 does? Or can you just use the HDMI & forget about the optical? Can you use optical and the old A/V ports and forget about HDMI? Is there better video/sound quality if you use the Optical and HDMI together?
Is there a receiver that can pass through HDMI video on certain inputs but upscale others?
The whole HDMI business is a nightmare with newer TV’s, blu-ray players, and receivers all trying to do something to the signal along the way. Particularly in the case of the PS3 which is the best blu-ray player and outputs 1080p/24 amazingly well, such that I wouldn’t want some stupid receiver to mess with that video signal at all. However, the HD Cable box only outputs 1080i so it would be fine to “upscale” that video input. I’ve read manuals from various Onkyo receivers, and it seems like the only option is the output resolution of the HDMI output itself, which overrides any other setting. For example, you can set the output to 1080p, 1080i, etc., or PASS THROUGH, but not a unique output for a particular interface (input). Please help!
PLEASE READ, PEOPLE! *Important part of this question is: upscale ONE input, but NOT another (pass through)
