HD-DVD or BLU-RAY what will you buy?
format wars…………………please end already what will you buy for your new movies………………….now remember some studios only put there movies on BLU-RAY and the others HD-DVD. So that means you may need to spend more money. Example: Spiderman only on BLU-RAY Transformers only on HD-DVD. YES I KNOW THAT SUCKS!!!!!! That means you need 2 different players
Older HDTV compatability with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?
I have a Sony KP-51WS500 HDTV with DVI as the only input for the HD signal. I was planning to use a HDMI to DVI cable to connect a Blu-Ray DVD player to the tv.
I’m now reading about HDCP. Is it true that HDCP will prevent me from using a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player with my tv? If so, is there any way around this other than getting a new TV?
Thank you, John
Seems to be some conflicting, or confusing information.
My TV’s manual says “Can accommodate a copyprotected
digital connection (HDCP*) to other devices (such as digital set-top
boxes) that have compatible interfaces.”
But from the HDCP entry on Wikipedia: “Content providers for HD-DVD and Blu-ray media can set an Image Constraint Token (ICT) flag that will only output full-resolution digital signals using a digital HDCP connection. If an HDCP enabled player is connected to a non-HDCP-enabled television set with a non-HDCP-compliant analog connection (VGA or Component), and the content is flagged, the player will output a downsampled 960×540 pixel signal. If using non-HDCP-compliant DVI connection (with HDMI to DVI cable), the user will not get any picture at all. Many older high-definition television sets currently in use are not HDCP-capable, and this would negate some of the key benefits of HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc for those consumers”
Can something really surpass Blu-Ray and HD-DVD?
This is a serious question, think with seriousness. heh..
I’m a movie fan. I absolutely love movies in all forms, love the experience and everything about it. So sometime next year I plan on starting a movie collection in hi-def, mostly blu-ray. And yes I will be taking advantage of full HD.
But my question to you is, can something actually look any better? HD TV sets can always improve, I have no doubt. But I just can’t imagine how further they can improve on hi-def. And if they do it probably won’t be significant or will be something crazy like 3D, no thanks.
Anywho my thoughts on this in the end is that during these times I don’t think things will improve quickly or even radically, like VHS to DVD. It’s just Blu-Ray & HD-DVD look damn good and even if something better comes out, Blu-Ray will still look pretty damn good. Don’t you agree? ^.^
