Will Blu-Ray DVD’s play on a regular old DVD player?

I have a 4 year old DVD player that I don’t think is HD and certainly not Blu-Ray. It plays regular Netflix movies fine, but since the industry is changing to Blu-Ray, will they play on my “regular” unit or do I have to go out and buy a new one?
Also, will home movies I had put on DVD play on a new Blu-Ray?

  1. Your current DVD player will not play Bluray movies or HD DVDs. You’ll need to get a Bluray player (or PS3) to play these. Also, the Bluray players are backwards complatible so you’ll be able to play all of your old DVDs/home movies

  2. That’s why I don’t buy DVD’s because now a days, there a blu rays and they are MUCH better and now i don’t have a butt load of DVD’s that are old stuff now. I hav BLU RAYS

  3. dvd players use a red laser to scan the dvd..blu ray uses a violet blue (hence the name blu ray)..anyway..you will need a blu ray player to play the movie..but the cheapest one is probably the ps3..you will also get the most value out of it because of the other things it does as well

  4. simply put, standard DVD’sWILL play on Blu Rey machines, Blu Rey or HD DVD will NOT play on standard DVD players

  5. Can I play any dvd on a blue ray?? Does it matter if they are not blue ray??
