Neither is “better”. The questions is going to be which is going to win the HD war.
That depends really on what you have now, what format has more of the titles you want, etc..
There are a few dual format units out there, but am waiting just a little while longer to get any. The format “war” is far from over with now three formats in the fray. But these only make up a fraction of total sales.
Blu-Ray or HD DVD saying they are winning is just propaganda.
I suspect that in the long run, most HD players will be dual-format. The early models are all going to be imperfect and expensive, so you might as well buy the cheapest one and expect to replace it with a dual-format model in a year or two. That would be my reasoning for buying an HD DVD player now. Plus, HD DVD discs are more durable and will survive scratches that would kill a Bluray disc.
Are there movies that you MUST have that are only available in one of the formats? If so, the decision has been made for you.
tech-wise bluray.price-wise hd.
Both look equally good to me when I was looking to buy HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. I didn’t want to pick one and miss out on those movies that were exclusively made for the other format. So, I’m waiting for the combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/Standard DVD players to come out. There are a few of the combo players out, but those are in the $1,0000 price range. I think that by summer of 2008, they will be cheaper.
So, which is better? Neither one, picture quality-wise. Like The AnswerMan says, the size of the disc wars goes to Blu-Ray. My only problem is, it only takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours to see a movie in the theater, but with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, you will most likely have 4-10 hours more of movie content to see. And to think that there only 24 hours in a day.
