Do you think either DVD player/recorder would be as good?

I want to buy an external DVD recorder because it is easy to switch from computer to computer and less conflicts but maybe I cannot find an external recorder so an alternate choice or maybe the same difference would be an internal recorder and then buy an external box that connects to the pc via usb or firewire. Any suggestions? Ofcourse I want a blueray double sided burner but not sure on model

It might seem to be a good idea, but though many external boxes say they are CD/DVD compatible, they only mean they have the proper connectors for the device, and not anything regarding vanity.

In some cases though the CD/DVD was able to connect to the external box, the end covers to make it all pretty and neat would not fit back on, so had to stay off. The problem with this is, without the end covers the drive will move freely and can easily be damaged.

I had a similar problem which I solved in a functional manner. A simple device adapter with multi inputs (usb, ide, sata) with its own external power supply which would allow me to connect any internal device externally to any free USB 2.0 port.

I have several loose (not installed in a case) HDD’s and an external IDE Lightscribe drive, which using my cable adapters, allow me to plug and play the IDE drive, with my SATA HDD’s. Its not pretty, but it works for me, and may work for you.

Attached links are example of an external cover that claims to support CD/DVD drives and 3.5″ HDD.

The 2nd link is for the adapter I opted for instead of getting a pretty cover :D
