New Disc Technologies
The name “Blue-ray comes from the colour of the laser used to read and write this type of discs i.e. blue-violet.
The Blue-ray discs can hold more data than a DVD because of its short wavelength (405nm). A DVD, which uses a red laser, has a wavelength of 650 nm.
As we know a whole DVD can hold up to 4.7 GB of data. One layer of a blue-ray disc can hold 25 GB. Dual layer Blue-ray discs can hold 50 GB. So, this gives you an idea of how far the technology has increased from our day-today DVD disc – a very long way.
It was a collection of several companies who specialise in; consumer electronics, computer hardware and motion picture production – that developed the Blue-ray disc. They are now known as the Blue-ray Disc Association.
Currently only HD DVD is competing with Blue-ray to be the leading carrier for high-definition content to consumers.
You will find Blue-ray technology in some of the latest game consoles available today e.g. Sony Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360
Xbox DVD – Xbox 360 Hd DVD and Xbox Games
First, I’ll like to say the 360 HD DVD player in the Xbox 360 is great, I love it, needless to say, the Xbox 360 games are great. “Seeing is believing” they say, and what I’ve seen and heard of the Xbox 360 is fantastic!
Click Here – All XBox 360 Downloads
There are some great games out there for the 360, good quality games displayed on a nice monitor really lets you appreciate the visual effects. Compared to the 360 HD DVD player, Dell’s 50″ screens are 720p/1080i 1368×768 resolution, and not like the new 1080p 1920×1080 that’s out now.
The KING KONG 360 HD DVD movie didn’t seem to be HD or 6x better than a regular DVD movie compared to the xbox 360 HD DVD player. I was disappointed when I first viewed the KING KONG 360 HD DVD disc that is included. I was so sad that I was prepared to return it to Amazon, but then I changed the screen on the xbox360 HD DVD (which I hadn’t done since I bought the DELL 2yrs ago with the ARIA DVD) the 360 HD DVD movie simply ‘came to life!’
The 360 HD DVD has beautiful colors, detail images in the shadows, real blacks and a ‘film like’ appearance to the whole 360 HD DVD . I’ve seen KING KONG on regular DVD and it was nice, but this Xbox 360 HD DVD Player does something to the ‘feel’ of the movie detail, for example: in the ‘T-REX battle, facing the last beast, I could see KONG clearly (360 HD DVD) “BITE the TONGUE” of the T-REX and ripped it out of its MOUTH!.
I missed that split second detail in my regular DVD player, but not in the 360 HD DVD player. You’d better get some good xbox 360 downloads.
This player does what HD should do… blow you away with detail and presentation, the 360 HD DVD players great. The mpeg 4(AVC-H.264)/VC-1/codec is in full glory in 360 HD DVD. But so is Blu-ray, now that they too are adopting the more modern compressing codes and correcting their earlier players (firmware:Genesis chip disable/Samsung BDP1000) / movie releases (old mpeg2) along the way. Finally, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is a great add-on for the 360 console, the answer to the Blu-ray PS3. Buy it!
Blu-ray Disk Technology Decoding Process
The capacity of the blu-ray technology is very much higher than the HD-DVD recording capacity. DVD forum backs the High definition DVD but on the other hand the companies that support bluray format are larger in number. Blu-ray disks have more ability to store data per layer than the High definition DVD disk. Recording and transfer speed of blu-ray technology is faster because its NA value is higher. At rotation speed of 10,000 (RPM) results in blu-ray drive (12x) that is equivalent to HD-DVD (9x).
So higher speed rotation is required by the High definition DVD so that it can reach up to the bluray disk format’s transfer speed. Internal structure of DVD & HD DVD is different from that of blu-ray disc. The inside layers of the disks is different but have the same disk thickness. So the development of the hybrid disks is very much easier as the thickness of the blu-ray data layer is 0.1mm. Bluray single sided disk can incorporate dual-layer 8.5GB DVD9 disk and disk (double sided) is required in high definition DVD. Blu-ray disk players’ process all the associated elements of audio in the disk player for implementing the interactive characteristics of BD live & Bonus view.
This processing model is similar to which was utilized for video on the DVD disks. This processing model involves the decoding of main video. Afterwards menus or sub-titles are overlaid to the main video and then the complete presentation of video as output. The output can be in base band digital signals (High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Digital Visual Interface DVI) or analog signals (component, composite). The decoded sound tracks from the blu-ray disk and the elements of audio that are downloaded or streamed through internet or either internally generated by the blu-ray player are decoded in the form of Pulse code modulation digital signals. PCM (pulse code modulation) is a format that is used by the disk players for mixing and performing the internal operations of audio processing. Button sounds, streaming commentary and the secondary audio are blended with primary sound track 7.1 or 5.1 from the disk in mixing stage. This results in complete presentation of audio as anticipated by the creator of the content.
As the decoding system is built in these HD-formats, so its complete playback capability is enabled with audio/video receivers of next version and also with the previous generation receivers (audio/video) that were not equipped with decoders of Dolby True-HD & Digital plus. Bluray players depending on their model can output the sound tracks that are decoded internally as analog signal (multi channel) through analog connections, PMI (Pulse code modulation) signal through HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface or as signal (Dolby Digital) through digital or coaxial connection. Most of the bluray disk players provide all of these three choices.
High Definition Multimedia Interface is capable of transferring signals of both video & audio. Therefore one cable is needed in order to connect the A/V receiver and the disk player. Connection through the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) enables the complete post processing DSP application features of the A/V receiver like the “bass management”, “Dolby pro-logic II-z” or “Dolby pro-logic II-x” capability of channel expansion (5.1 to 7.1 to 9.1) and the distance settings of the speaker. The users can fully enjoy the HD-audio through the analog multi-channel output when the blu-ray player is connected to audio/video receiver having analog inputs of multi-channel. Post processing of DSP (digital signal processing) to input signals (analog) is not applied by some A/V receivers.

Savvy Online Shopping
Savvy Online Shopping
Savvy shoppers and bargain hunters are certainly not a new phenomenon. Ever since stores introduced the idea of sales there have been bargain hunters seeking out the best available prices on products and thrifty consumers are always seeking out ways to save money while shopping. However, online shopping offers shoppers many new ways to save money. Savvy shoppers can not only find the best deals online but can also find ways to further reduce the cost of these great deals. This article will discuss some of the ways savvy online shoppers can save money and will also discuss how these smart shoppers can also help to ensure the authenticity of an item when they are shopping online.
Finding the Best Deals Online
One of the greatest benefits of shopping online is the ability to comparison shop with ease. While comparison shopping at traditional stores may takes hours, days or even weeks for traveling from one store to another to determine which store is offering an item at the best price, online shoppers can typically accomplish the same task in a matter of mere minutes. In some cases of online shopping, finding the best deal can be as easy as going to websites which provide listings of online retailers for a particular item and produce comparison charts providing the information about the cost of these items from each retailer. This is an extremely easy method of comparison shopping and finding the best deal. However, even when this option is not available finding the best deal on a product online is typically not difficult.
Savvy online shoppers can find often find the best deal online by simply visiting websites of several online retailers and noting the price at which they are selling the item in question. One simple way to do this is to open a new web browser window for each online retailer the shopper is comparing. This way the online shopper can simply browse through the open windows all at once and then only keep open the browser windows from online retailers offering the item at the best prices. Once the online shopper narrows the search down to a few online retailers who are offering the item at a favorable price they can use other factors such as shipping prices and incentives offered to buyers such as future discounts to make the final decision and determine which online retailer is truly offering the best deal on the item.
Additional Tips for Saving while Online Shopping
Comparison shopping is one way online shoppers can find the best deals online but savvy shoppers can find additional ways to save money while online shopping. One way to do this is to seek out promotional codes offered by online retailers. This can often be accomplished by doing an Internet search including the name of the online retailer as well as phrases such as, “coupon,” or “promotional code.” This type of search may return a number of different websites which compile coupons and promotional codes for a variety of different online retailers. These coupons and promotional codes may offer the online shopper savings such as a discount off the final price of an item or free shipping. However, it is important to note that not all of these codes will be valid. Online shoppers should not only verify the promotional code is still valid but should also carefully review the restrictions involved with using the promotional code to be sure the buyer is eligible to use the promotional code to obtain a discount.
Ensuring Authenticity when Shopping Online
Savvy online shoppers also realize it is necessary to verify the authenticity of an item before making a purchase online. This is important because it can help to prevent the shopper from purchasing items which are replicas of the item they are seeking. Verifying authenticity is usually not an issue when the online shopper is purchasing an item directly from an online retailer who is licensed to sell the item. However, problems may arise when the shopper is purchasing an item through auction websites or through individual retailers. In these cases the items may be misrepresented either intentionally or unintentionally. Regardless of whether or not the online retailer is attempting to deceive the buyers or simply makes a mistake, online shoppers should know how to determine the authenticity of an item. This ability usually comes from researching the items well and being aware of the key features of the items.

Dangers Of Buying A Pirated DVD Online
One of the problems the filmmakers are facing is the rapid spread of pirated DVD and CD market. Thus it has become imperative to be cautious about the danger of producing, buying or using pirated products. Suppose you have bought a good looking, nice packed DVD, and when you come back home with it you find something disturbing. The cover, which is printed on the face of the DVD, is a cheap, ordinary looking one. Then you can be certain that the picture would be sub-standard and unclear.
Distributors generally would make good quality DVD cases for the packaging whereas a pirated DVD would be put in an ordinary DVD case.
All the DVDs are based on region codes. Most often the pirated DVDs contain non-existent codes which can be easily identified. You can play the supposedly region 1 DVD on any Region 4 player.
Another important problem you would witness is that the cover would not match the title and content of the DVD. The fonts used most of the time are blurry and are full of typographical errors. The original DVD should contain the DVD image that was given in the ad. Pirated DVDs seldom follow this and will have any picture on it.
One of the problems that the online sellers face is the selling of pirated DVDs through major online selling sites. The sites, which host the web selling, often do not have too much control over the merchandise. This leads to customer dissatisfaction over the sold product.
There are some precautions you can take while buying a DVD to check its originality. Find out the photos of the original DVD on the net. You can find it in other places also and can request it from the distributors or the reseller. If the reseller is genuine, then he can provide you with snapshots taken from different angles.
Do not forget to check the feedback of the seller from other customers. There might be a negative comment written on him. Some people have the habit of making comments before they go through the process of investigating the whole truth. Read the comments carefully as there might be some useful information shared in the small space.
Some sellers are there who try to make quick bucks by selling both original and pirated DVDs. They just mix the content and sell to unsuspecting consumers. As it is online, most customers do not take the pain to send the DVD back to the seller and ask for a refund.
Pirates, nowadays, have a full arsenal for creating pirated DVDs. They even have a factory to put a stamp on their own DVD and seal it. Most of the time, the seals are imitations of the original factory seal. This easily fools the buyer.
However, the reputed sellers do not indulge in any of these practices and you can rest assured that the product offered by them is 100% genuine.
How to Rent DVD Movies Online
If you are a avid movie fan then you probably enjoy renting DVD movies. However, renting online rather than shops is fast becoming the most popular method for movie lovers. If you are unsure of renting your DVD movies on the internet, then here is a quick guide to doing so.
The Cost of Online Rentals
There are many different online rental services available, and the costs will always vary. They all offer various different packages and membership levels to suit different needs and budgets. For example, you may choose the lowest membership price which allows you to rent one DVD movie at a time. You may also find the most expensive packages allow you to rent perhaps 8-10 or even an unlimited number of DVD movies a month.
Waiting for Your Movie
Perhaps online DVD movie rental does not seem like a good idea due to the waiting times. However, you can choose your rental picks up to months in advance and the service will deliver them whenever you have a free rental slot open. This will work out even more speedy than rental stores, as you will no longer have to drive to pick up your titles or worry about them being in stock. Most services will use fast shipping to make sure your DVD movies are always delivered on time.

Rather you can start watching movies at the click of a button! The number of movies you can watch as part of your membership will vary, as will the movie titles available via this method.
Buy Discounted DVDs
As well as rentals, most online services will also give you the option to purchase DVDs directly from their website. You can usually make big savings here since these DVD movies have been used before and as such are greatly reduced in price. You could be saving around half the cost of the brand new DVD, which is great if you come across a movie that you feel like watching over and over again.
Movie Reviews and Recommendations
Movie rental services can even send you personalised recommendations to help you discover new movies. This is great for movie lovers, though if you want to choose the movies yourself then simply read the reviews to decide on which movies to watch. These sites benefit from both official and user reviews to help you make your decision. Online reviews and rental services can really open your eyes to movies you would never have considered before.
As you can see, there are many benefits to using an online DVD movie rental service over a traditional store, and it is extremely easy to get started and benefit from the great choice available! Many of these rental services even offer a free trial so you can decide for yourself whether the service is right for you.

Features To look For When You Buy A DVD Player
It’s not hard to see why DVD players have taken the video world by storm. All you have to do is watch a movie on DVD and then watch that same movie on VHS tape instead. The difference can be startling. So just as CDs took over the audio world, DVDs are dominant in the video world, and DVD players are a staple of the home entertainment center, and certainly of a home theater setup too.
So what should you know when you shop for DVD players? Well, as with everything a lot depends on your budget but here are some of the features to look for when you buy a DVD player:
* In the electronics world, cable connections are very important and it’s no different with DVD players. Almost all DVD players come with a standard composite-video cable to connect the player to the TV, and this kind of cable can produce a decent picture. But it’s also very limiting because the black and white, and color video signals are all sent together through this cable and it’s easy for the colors to bleed over into other colors and lose detail and sharpness. If your DVD p[layer comes with a S-video cable this can dramatically improve the video as this cable can separate out the black and white from the color signals resulting in greater clarity. Finally if you get a DVD player that can use a component-video cable that can be the best yet because it also splits the color signal too, allowing even greater color range and detail.
* It’s good to have an aspect control feature on a DVD player too. Many DVD movies are coming now in different formats to fit whatever TV you have. The aspect control lets you take advantage of this and tune the movie to the specific ratio that best fits the size of your television screen.
* Some DVD players have multi-angle capability built in and that can be useful at times too. It doesn’t work with all DVDs, but with those that are compatible, it’s pretty cool. It actually allows you to adjust the picture angle so that you can view the action from different perspectives.
* Having surround sound decoding built into your DVD players can be very useful too, especially if you have a Dolby Digital receiver and at least six speakers to achieve the 5.1 surround sound effect. If your receiver does not have the Dolby 5.1 decoder built into it then you need to have it decoded by the DVD player before it is sent to the receiver. Once at the receiver the signal is amplified and distributed to the appropriate speakers in the room. If you wish to use the more recent 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound systems you will need to have the decoder for that on your DVD player too, and either 7 or 8 speakers to match.
These are some of the features that can be most useful when you are playing DVDs, so look for them the next time you want to buy a DVD player.
